Spotify Web/Mobile App Review
Hey blog fans today I will speak about the Spotify App which is a music, podcast, and audiobook application that makes it easy for users to find music and download it for personal use as well as share playlists with other Spotify users. Spotify was not the first music streaming service but it took off after being introduced in 2008 but being released in the US in 2011, it allowed the user to stream music directly from the app or website without the need to download which was much different from the old music industry model of artists selling CD's that the user would physically own. Currently a source of media that is popular is podcasts and audiobooks which were added to Spotify to add different sources of media other than music, also the app now provides a small video box with podcasts so users can watch recorded video along with the podcasts. I attached a picture of the simplicity of the Spotify app where on the left you can access playlists, liked music, and podcasts also I attached a picture of how easy the playlists are to navigate once you get them open. Also the Spotify design is bright and very easy to start using in my opinion and allows you to start compiling music with or without a subscription. In terms of usability, design, and functionality I think that Spotify checks all of the boxes and is one of the smoothest user experiences in regards to the apps that I use everyday but I do believe there are improvements that Spotify could make that would work today.
I love the user interface for Spotify and think that it is the best in music streaming services but my first suggestion for Spotify would be for Spotify to add an extension where users could take the music that they use and create short clips of copyrighted music that people could then use on videos. I'm not sure on the legal side if this is possible but with so many people invested in content creation this feature would be a big plus for Spotify and drive users to the app. Apps like Tik-Tok and Instagram are big with videos that are usually accompanied by popular music so Spotify being the go-to for these short tracks would be huge. That suggestions rolls into my second suggestion as well which would be Spotify should include a public playlist ranking in terms of times played or times viewed, many people love music but don't have the time to search through song after song and although Spotify produces playlists I think this would work great. This suggestion would work great in my opinion because once you find somebody with similar taste then future playlists would probably be something you would want to hear and a ranking system for public playlists would help users find playlists that they may like. My last suggestion was tough to come up with but Spotify actually sets your listening habits to public by default and although the users have the option for private sessions those are turned public again after 6 hours of inactivity, so my suggestion would be for Spotify to introduce a way for users that really care to make playlists and listen to music without those listening habits being public. For some privacy can be an important issue and I'm sure some of their users would enjoy this feature but overall I think the Spotify app is great!
